Reuse a round reward calculation
v6 · Activity 6 of 14 · functions · parameters · return-values · 9 min Runs here
Chapter outline
Build a reward calculation that can be reused for different rounds. Each collected star earns 3 points, then a completion bonus adds 2. Return the total so callers can use it. Zero stars still earns the bonus.
Run code tests the same solution with the reviewed inputs shown below. The Learning simulation displays the actual returned values, including incorrect results. It does not test Roblox physics, networking or persistent game data.
Your task
Define reward(stars) to return stars * 3 + 2. Keep the final return reward so the checker can call it with several inputs.
Interface: reward(stars: number) returns a number. The checker calls the returned function with each test input.
| Input | Expected |
|---|---|
No stars0 | 2 |
One star1 | 5 |
Four stars4 | 14 |

What this exercise checks
Actual returned results for every test input · the stated behavior · extra output allowed.
Successful execution is required. A compile error, runtime error or execution limit never completes this task.
Whitespace, matching single or double quotes, and different variable names are allowed. Output-only tasks accept any valid Luau solution meeting the displayed result and value types. Construct tasks use the stated straight-line form.
